My baby wont sleep

Or my toddler I suppose!
I have a 22 month old who recently started sleeping in a toddler bed. he has always been a fussy sleeper, he didnt sleep through the night until he was 11 months, he still has a nighttime bottle sometimes. A few weeks ago he started to climb up and over the bars of his cot so we decided to change it into a bed.
Since then he has been a complete nightmare again, last night he wouldnt even get into his bed, he just kept screaming and screaming then when we did finally get into bed he would lie down and settle unless i sat with him.
He finally went to sleep at around 10pm (he went up to bed at around 7:30) when i went downstairs he was fine until around 11:30 then he woke up screaming again. After about half an hour I gave up and took him in bed with me (i was totally wrecked by then).
I am so frustrated I cant put him back in the cot because he throws himself over the side but he seems terrified of his bed?
Is it really possible for a toddler to have a bed phobia??!?

Well I havent actually experienced this myself (yet) but I did spend a lovely summer a few years back staying with my sister, sharing a bedroom with my neice who had just moved into her first toddler bed.
At first it was awful, she didnt understand that she was meant to actually sleep in the bed and for quite a few weeks, I'd wake up and find her fast asleep on the floor. The worst part though was actually getting her to go to sleep in the first place. (Many nights of her standing behind the bedroom door laughing when she was meant to be asleep) but we were firm with her but not in a mean way. Just kept leading her back to bed, hardly talking to her, so we didnt encourage her to stay awake, putting her in bed and walking away again. At first this was basically up and down, putting her back to bed but after a while she got the idea and after about a month she was fine with the bed.
Apart from that 'm not sure what to suggest. Actually tucking a teddy up with her everynight and saying something like good teddy, go to sleep might have helped aswell???
