Im scared now - help!

I have had cramps and BH contractions every night for about a week now. Last night however I was having pains with them, whichfelt like a sharp pain around the top of my bump and burning over the rest. I am not sure if this was contractions as my tummy did not really feel like it was getting tight, just painful.I timed them and they were 5 mins apart. every other night the discomfort has stopped in the early hours only to start up again early the next afternoon,and the same thing happened last night (this is why i didnt call the hospital etc), however this afternoon(it is 5:00pm here) they have come back again and are more painful than last night although as yet seem to have no pattern.
I dont want to go rushing off to the hospital as everytime i do that they find a reason to worry and keep me there LOL but I am a little concerned as to what it is if it is not BH contractions and why they seem to be stopping and starting and also why they suddenly got painful.
It seems a bit regular to be gas pains etc although that is kind of how it feels.
does anyone have any experience with this and is it worth me calling a midwife over?
I am about 33 weeks
