Weight gain in pregnancy
All pregnat woman need to gain weight. Every woman is different but in general if you gain too little or too much weight it can cause problems for your or your baby (as well as making it more difficult to lose weight after the birth!). If you want a more personalized idea of what you should aim for speak to your doctor but in general the following weight gain is advised, based pn your pre pregnancy weight and on a singleton pregnancy.
| Underweight | 28 to 40 pounds |
| Normal weight | 25 to 35 pounds |
| Overweight | 15 to 25 pounds |
| Obese | At least 15 pounds |
The weight is not all your "gain" much of it is simply the baby and amnoitic fluid etc, the extra weight can be broken down like this
| Baby | 7 to 8 pounds |
| Breasts | 1 to 3 pounds |
| uterus | 2 pounds |
| Placenta | 1 to 2 pounds |
| Amniotic fluid | 2 pounds |
| Increased blood volume | 3 to 4 pounds |
| Increased fluid volume | 2 to 3 pounds |
| Fat stores | 6 to 8 pounds |
