What should you avoid in pregnancy
Too much caffeine :
This does not mean that you cannot have any caffeine in pregnancy but it is a good idea to try and cut down in pregnancy.
Alcohol:
Drinking in pregnancy can seriously affect your baby. You should try and limit the amount of alcohol you consume from the moment you get a positive test. Most health professionals agree that cutting out any alcohol in pregnancy is the best choice.
Some types of fish.
Eating fish inpregnancy can be an important part of a balanced diet although others such as shark and swordfish should be avoided because they contain mercury which could have an adverse effect on your unborn baby.
Herbal remedies.
You should avoid herbal remedies unless they are approved by your doctor.Some herbal medicines are not recommended for use by pregnant women.
Undercookedmeats.
You should avoidundercooked meat during your pregnancy, it is a good idea to be more vigilant than ever about making sure that food such as chicken is cooked through. Food poisoning in pregnancy can cause problems for an unborn baby.
Liver.
This i
s because it contains high levels of vitamin A which is bad for your baby.
Smoking.
If you or your partner (or anyone you live with) smokes it is a good idea to quit as soon as you hear you are pregnant (or before it the pregnancy is planned). Smoking causes problems such as low birth weight and after the baby is born smoking can cause permanent damage to the baby.
Hot tubs or Jacuzzis over 100 degrees farenheit.
This is because it is best to keep your core body temperature stable. There is some disagreement over this one and so it might be a good idea to check with your own doctor or midwife.
Toxic substances such as paint fumesor varnish.
You should try and limit exposure to toxic substances during your pregnancy.
Dehydration.
It is a good idea to make sure you drink plenty of water during your pregnancy, dehydration is not good for either you or your baby and in later pregnancy can make Braxton hicks contractions worse.
Some kinds of Cheese.
Pregnant women are advised not to eat soft, mould-ripened cheeses, such as Brie or Camembert, and blue-veined cheeses, such as Danish Blue and Stilton.
