Your pregnancy month three
You
By the first week of this month you might starting to notice some changes in your body. Your breasts may have increased in size and you may notice some early growth in your waistline! (although still mostly pregnancy bloating at this point). Some women find that their skin and hair changes during pregnancy, perhaps you will get greasy hair or maybe it will become shiny and healthy, every pregnancy is different!.
It is possible that your skin may become more sensitive to beauty products such as makeup and moisturisers, if this happens try switching to a hypoallergenic variety.
You might find that you still have to use the bathroom more and that you are increasingly tired during the day, this might be worse as your changing hormones may make it difficult for you to sleep soundly at night. Doing some gentle exercise in pregnancy can help you to increase energy levels and stay fit, try a short walk each day or go for a swim.
You may be wondering if you are expecting twins, some of the signs are earlier weight gain and possibly greater sickness and tiredness, although it may come as a complete shock at your scan!. If you are pregnant with twins you will probably have a small “baby bump” by the middle of this month.
For most women the end of this month brings the end of the symptoms of early pregnancy. By week 12 you may feel more like your old self again with less sickness and more energy, don't worry if your symptoms haven't completely disappeared it may take a few more weeks, although some women continue to feel certain symptoms throughout the pregnancy.
By the end of this month your uterus will begin to rise higher and it is possible that you may start to get a bump!. At the end of the first trimester the risk of miscarriage is much lower and many women begin to relax and enjoy the next trimester which is (normally) without the symptoms of the first trimester and without the discomforts of late pregnancy.
Congratulations the end of this month marks the end of the first trimester!
Your baby
At the start of this month your baby is about 2 and a half centimetres long and weighs around 9 grams. He or she has developing fingers and toes and already has some working organs. By week 10 of your pregnancy your baby has elbows that bend and has eyelids that are fused shut (not to open until about week 27). Also around week 10 your baby has its first wee! (which is absorbed into the amniotic fluid). During week 10 to 11 the umbilical cord is fully formed and by the end of this month the placenta is formed although it will not become fully functional until about week 14.During this month many of your baby's organs have begun to function and features such as fingers, toes eyes and ears are rapidly developing. Your baby now has a very human shape although his or her head is still large in comparison to the rest of the body. You may have a scan around now and if so you may be able to see some of the new details of your baby!.
