Your pregnancy month five

The fifth month of your pregnancy will see your bump expanding and probably becoming a lot more noticeable. You might find new symptoms appearing as you progress through your pregnancy, blocked nose increasing vaginal discharge and losing your balance can all be blamed on your pregnancy. You might still be feeling tired and you may even find that you become more easily out of breath when exerting yourself by climbing stairs or walking. At the end of this month a new symptom might begin to bother you; round ligament pain. These can be quite painful at times and are the result of the ligaments either side of your abdomen stretching as your uterus grows, you might even start to feel back ache as your bump grows and gets heavier. During the fifth month your uterus will rise to your belly button. Cystitis and thrush are common problems in the last half of pregnancy and if you suspect either of these you should contact your doctor, both are easily treated. If you have a scan at this point in your pregnancy you may be able to find out the sex of your baby. Increasing blood flow may mean that you get hot more easily during these next few months, you may also find that you sweat more easily from now on!.

Your baby

At the beginning of this month your baby begins to inhale and exhale amniotic fluid, she is grasping at the umbilical cord and kicking and turning around. She starts the month at about 12 cms in length and ends it at about 15cms. Your baby may be able to suck her thumb and is developing a stronger bone structure as the month progresses, she might even be growing hair on her head by the end of this month. By week 18 your baby will weigh about 135grams or 8 ounces. During this month your baby starts to be able to hear your voice and other sounds from outside the womb, try talking or playing music to her she may move in response!. Your baby has reached many milestones this month, she has begun to hear you, she has begun to grasp at the umbilical cord and she even has teeth forming in her gums.
