Healthy snacks for baby
These snack ideas are ideal for babies who are just starting to eat solid food.
1. pieces of fruit and vegetables:
Try; peach pieces banana pieces melon pieces broccoli pieces (boiled or steamed) carrot sticks (boiled or steamed)
2. Homemade rusks
Ingredients
225g (8oz) plain flour half tsp bicarbonate of soda one tsp cream of tartar 50g (2oz) softened butter 25g (1oz) caster sugar (optional) 50g (2 oz) yoghurt 65ml (2.5 fl oz) semi skimmed milk half an egg (beaten)
Method
Preheat the oven to 180°C/ 350°F/ Gas mark 4. Sift the flour with the bicarbonate of soda and cream of tartar. Cream together the butter and sugar then stir in the flour. Using your hands mix until it looks like breadcrumbs. Combine the yogurt, milk and egg then add to the flour mixture. Knead together. Take a piece of the dough, roll then flatten using your palm. Place the rusks on a flat baking tray. Lower the oven temperature to 120 °C/250° F/ Gas mark half. Cook for 15-20 minutes (until dried). Cool then serve.
3. Eggy bread.
Ingredients
Butter 2 eggs 1 tbsp milk 2 slices of breadcrumbs
Method
Mix the eggs and milk together then soak the bread in the mixture. Fry until the crispy then cut into fingers and serve.
4. Peach yogurt
Ingredients:
1 peach 1 tbsp water 4 tbsp natural yogurt
Method:
Place peach pieces and water in a saucepan and boil until tender. Puree peach with yogurt and cooking water. Stir in and mix well. (makes three servings).
