Games for 6-9 month olds
By six months old your baby bears little resemblance to the tiny baby you held not so long ago. In this period he will sit, crawl and may even start to stand. He can already perform many social interactions and by his sixth month of life he is beginning to make and carry out plans to get what he wants. Games can now be slightly more complicated and any game that involves interaction or discovery will entertain your 6- 9 month old.
Splashing!
Your baby will love to splash in water whether it is in his bath or in a bowl for his hands. ( but remember never leave your baby alone with any amount of water.
Crawling game
Put your baby on his tummy and the place a rolled up towel along his feet this will allow him push back against it and give him the feeling that he is crawling, there is no need to push the towel, simply allow him to press his feet up against it. This will give him the idea of crawling and may help him master this skill.
Ball game
If your baby is able to sit unaided sit him opposite you so that he is facing you. Then gently roll a soft ball towards him, he will find it fun to stop the ball and as he gets older you could try adapting the game by rolling the ball just past him so that he much reach out or move to get it,
Drumming bowls
A simple game that your baby will enjoy is a homemade set of drums. Simply place a variety of different bowls of the floor in front of him and let him bang on them either with his hands or with a wooden spoon. You could also turn the bowls the right way up and let him put his toys in and out of them-baby's love bowls!.
Hide the toy
This game is a good one for 6 months and above as it relies on the idea that your baby has a sense of object permanence. Show him his toy then place a blanket over it to hide it. He may try and find it. You could also try showing him half his toy and hiding the other half or variations on this game depending on your baby's age.
